Finding Purpose in a New Identity

Whenever you are diagnosed with an illness, be it neurodivergence or a physical chronic condition, society wants you to be relieved as you now have a diagnosis. But the truth of it always tends to be so disappointing. Diagnosis grief is the sadness over the person you believed you were to be. It is alright to be angry. There is nothing wrong to have the floor fall out.

The shift thereafter should be encouraging others that the diagnosis is like a map.It does not alter your identity; it ultimately makes sense as to why the old directions were not working. Surviving, to most of us, has involved masking the painful struggle to hide our inclinations in order to fit in or be seen as normal or productive to others.

The new century reality is a matter of getting past How can I fit in? to How can I be comfortable?

Your Wellness is not a Project. The world will inform you that self-care is about mending yourself to enable you to resume work. True self-care is knowing that you are not shattered. You are merely in a world that was not designed to accommodate your particular genius and that is a world to which we are going to make some changes.
