Through diverse multimedia productions, we aim to address societal stigma, misunderstanding, and limited opportunities faced by individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. Too often, these individuals are viewed through the lens of their challenges rather than their capabilities, resulting in exclusion, discrimination, and a lack of recognition for their potential. “Abled Differently” is committed to increasing awareness, fostering acceptance, and offering support by showcasing the accomplishments and strengths of people with disabilities. Our project will promote the creation of more inclusive spaces, advocate equal access to opportunities, and call for a shift in societal attitudes—encouraging appreciation of diverse abilities and removing obstacles that hinder full participation.
We consider our initiative to be particularly timely, as discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion are gaining prominence globally. While perceptions of disability are changing, significant barriers, both physical and social, remain. With greater awareness of mental health, invisible disabilities, and the crucial need for accessible environments, redefining ability and challenging outdated stereotypes has become more important than ever. “Abled Differently” supports ongoing efforts for equal rights, representation, and opportunity for all, in line with Article 54 of the Kenyan Constitution. By nurturing a culture of acceptance and empowerment, the project addresses pressing social needs and helps build a more compassionate and inclusive society.
